The Home Ministry has initiated disciplinary action against Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and a Deputy Commissioner of Police for allegedly defaming the office of the Governor of West Bengal by spreading rumors. A central government official said that the Home Ministry has initiated this action after West Bengal Governor C.V. Anand Bose submitted a report regarding Goyal and Kolkata Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Indira Mukherjee, in which it has been alleged that the concerned officers are working in a manner which is completely inappropriate for a public servant.
The central government official said that Bose has raised the issue in his report submitted to the Home Minister in the last week of June that Kolkata Police officials are not allowing the victims of post-election violence to meet him, even though he had given them the necessary permission for this. The official said, the Home Ministry has initiated disciplinary action against the IPS officers on the basis of a detailed report submitted by Bengal Governor Bose.
He said that copies of the letter were sent to the state government on July 4. The official said that the Bengal Governor also accused other police officers posted at the Raj Bhavan of promoting fabricated allegations made by a female employee during April-May 2024. He said, these IPS officers have not only tarnished the office of the Governor by their actions, but have also acted in a manner which is completely inappropriate for a public servant. Bose has mentioned in his report the alleged new practice of Kolkata Police, which talks about issuing identity cards to the employees of Raj Bhavan and searching them at the time of entry and exit, despite the objection of the Governor’s office.
Preventing a delegation of victims of violence from various parts of West Bengal, including Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, from meeting Bose is an abrogation of the governor’s constitutional rights.
