In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Government of India has appointed Lokhande Prashant Sitaram (IAS: 2001: AGMUT) as the new Chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) under the Ministry of Education.
Prior to his new assignment, Lokhande was serving as Additional Secretary in the Department of Home under the Ministry of Home Affairs. A senior officer of the 2001 AGMUT cadre, he brings extensive administrative experience to the country’s premier school education board.
As part of the same reshuffle, Rahul Singh (IAS: 1996: Bihar cadre), who has been serving as Chairperson of CBSE, has been appointed as Additional Secretary in the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.
Rahul Singh’s transfer marks the end of his tenure at CBSE, during which the board undertook several initiatives related to examination reforms, digital governance, and implementation of education policies. In his new role, he will be involved in policymaking and administrative functions concerning the agriculture sector.
The appointments are part of a broader bureaucratic reorganization aimed at leveraging the experience of senior civil servants across key ministries and departments. With Prashant Lokhande taking charge, attention will now be focused on the future direction of CBSE and the implementation of ongoing education sector reforms.
