Senior Indian Police Service officer Alok Kumar Mittal has been appointed as the Director General of the Bureau of Police Research and Development, or BPR&D. Mittal is a 1993-batch IPS officer of the Haryana cadre. He will remain in the post until June 30, 2029, the date of his superannuation.
Before his appointment to the central post, Mittal was serving in Haryana as Director General, Prisons. His appointment as DG, BPR&D is part of a wider leadership reshuffle involving major central police and law-enforcement institutions.
1993-Batch IPS Officer of Haryana Cadre
Alok Kumar Mittal belongs to the 1993 batch of the Indian Police Service and is an officer of the Haryana cadre. He has held senior-level positions in the state police administration and was recently serving as Director General, Prisons, Haryana.
His latest appointment brings him to the leadership of the Bureau of Police Research and Development, a central organisation working in areas related to police research, modernisation, training and development.
Mittal had earlier been empanelled for holding Director General and Director General-equivalent posts in the Government of India, making him eligible for senior appointments at the Centre.

As DG of BPR&D, Mittal will be responsible for leading the organisation at the national level and overseeing its work aimed at strengthening policing practices and institutional capacity.
