Chandigarh Municipal Commissioner Anindita Mitra (IAS: 2007: PB) may face complications in resuming her duties due to a goof-up by the Centre regarding her tenure extension. Despite being given a farewell after her original term ended, Mitra received a controversial three-month extension—a rare move that occurred a month after she returned to her parent cadre.
However, the Punjab government has denied her relief, citing that she has already assumed charge of another department. As a result, it appears unlikely that Mitra will rejoin her role as Municipal Commissioner. With one month of her extension already lapsed, the situation remains uncertain.
In light of this, the Punjab government has proposed a panel of three IAS officers—Amit Kumar, Ramvir, and Girish Dayalan—as frontrunners to fill the Commissioner position, adding another layer of complexity to the administrative shuffle in Chandigarh.
