K Siva Prasad, an Additional Chief Secretary in Punjab, has submitted his application for voluntary retirement from service (VRS). The Punjab government has forwarded his request to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, for approval. If accepted, he would be relieved of his duties.
This is not the first time that Prasad has sought premature retirement. In the past, during former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s tenure, he had submitted his resignation but later reconsidered after the Chief Minister urged him to stay.
Prasad, who has authored the book Gita Acharan – A Beginner’s Perspective on the teachings of Bhagavad Gita and their relevance in contemporary life, has sparked debates regarding his future plans. The book, which has been translated into several languages, has added to the intrigue surrounding his next move. Speculation is rife about whether he will pursue a career in politics, particularly considering his familial connection to the late GMC Balayogi, former Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
