The Karnataka Cabinet has officially withdrawn its consent for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct inquiries within the state. This decision is grounded in the provisions of The Delhi Special Police Establishment (DSPE) Act, 1946, which mandates that the CBI requires state government approval to initiate investigations.
The Cabinet’s withdrawal of the notification signifies a shift towards limiting CBI operations in Karnataka. Law and Parliamentary Minister H.K. Patil clarified that should a court mandate a CBI investigation, the government’s restraining order will not apply. This move comes amid allegations of the CBI being misused against opposition parties and governments, highlighting ongoing concerns about the agency’s impartiality in politically sensitive cases.
