In a significant move under the Government of India’s Skill India Initiative, National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Iron & Steel Sector Skill Council (IISSSC). This collaboration aims to implement a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) system, which will include NSQF-based skill development programs followed by assessments and certifications for NALCO’s contractual employees.
The MoU, signed at Nalco Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, marks a key step in enhancing the competency levels of NALCO’s workforce to align with industry standards. The agreement will help both NALCO and IISSSC contribute to the Skill India mission and sustain growth within their sectors.
The signing ceremony was attended by NALCO’s CMD Shri Sridhar Patra, directors, and senior officials from both NALCO and IISSSC, including Dr. Sushim Banerjee, CEO of IISSSC, and Shri Pritam Shankar Purkayastha, Director of BPNSI. CMD Shri Sridhar Patra emphasized the long-term benefits of skill training, noting that it will support the safe and sustained operation of the organization.
The IISSSC, established as part of the National Skill Development Policy 2009, plays a crucial role in bridging skill gaps through research, quality assurance, and the development of IT-enabled labor management systems. This MoU reinforces its commitment to enhancing vocational education and skill development in the iron and steel sector.
