On November 19, 2024, REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited, officially handed over the project-specific Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) of the HVDC Transmission Project under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route, namely Khavda V-A Power Transmission Limited, to Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) at a ceremony held in Gurugram.
PGCIL emerged as the Transmission Service Provider (TSP) through the TBCB process managed by RECPDCL, which served as the Bid Process Coordinator. The transmission project will be developed on a Build, Own, Operate & Transfer (BOOT) basis.
This marks the first HVDC transmission project to be awarded via the TBCB route and transferred to PGCIL. The project involves the establishment of two HVDC terminal stations with a capacity of 6000 MW at KPS2 and Nagpur, along with a +800 kV HVDC Bipole line (Hexa Lapwing) spanning 1200 km from KPS2 to Nagpur. It will also include six 1500 MVA, 765/400 kV ICTs at the Nagpur substation, as well as other associated infrastructure.
The handover ceremony was conducted by Shri T.S.C. Bosh, CEO of RECPDCL, to Shri Pankaj Pandey, Executive Director of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, in the presence of senior officials from RECPDCL, PGCIL, and the Central Transmission Utility of India Limited. The implementation period for the project is set at 54 months.
