As Haryana and Maharashtra gear up for critical assembly elections, Ritesh Chauhan (IAS: 2005: HP), the current Managing Director of the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED), is anticipating another extension of his tenure beyond the standard eight-year mark. Chauhan’s current tenure, which includes his central deputation period, will conclude on September 22, 2024. His extension proposal is reportedly pending approval.
In addition to his role at NAFED, Chauhan serves as the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and has been functioning as the CEO of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna since October 2021. He assumed the additional charge of MD at NAFED on May 1, 2023, following Rajbir Singh’s eighteen-month term. Chauhan’s continued role under a third extension in the additional charge is pending the appointment of a regular successor.
Should Chauhan receive the extension, he will mark his ninth consecutive year of central deputation—a rare achievement within the Government of India.
