A senior official from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, Vishal Desai Bapusaheb (IA&AS: 2010), was suspended on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, just one day before CAG Girish Chandra Murmu’s tenure concluded. The suspension follows serious allegations of corruption and sexual misconduct, raised by a group of concerned employees within the CAG office.
The complaints, which were lodged in August 2024, accuse Bapusaheb of engaging in sexual misconduct during an audit assignment in Mauritius and while recruiting young professionals. Additionally, he is accused of accepting bribes for recruitment under the sports quota and for filling vacant positions at the CAG Headquarters over the past few years.
Despite these allegations, Bapusaheb was appointed to a foreign posting in September 2024, as Director in the office of the Principal Director of Audit, London. However, following the ongoing investigation, he was recalled to India in October 2024 and reassigned as Senior Deputy Accountant General in Jaipur, effective November 10, 2024.
The final decision to suspend him came after a series of administrative measures, culminating in his suspension just before the conclusion of CAG Girish Chandra Murmu’s term.
