Speculation is rife that the Shiv Sena, led by Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, may consider former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) chief Sameer Wankhede as a candidate for the upcoming Assembly elections from Dharavi. However, the party has officially denied these claims. Wankhede, the ex-Mumbai zonal director of the NCB, gained national attention for leading the team that arrested Aryan Khan, son of actor Shah Rukh Khan, on drug-related charges in 2021. Reports suggest that fielding Wankhede could potentially bolster Shiv Sena’s appeal among Hindu voters. The Assembly elections in Maharashtra are scheduled for November 20.
