Noted economist and member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, Sanjeev Sanyal, has been appointed as the new Chancellor of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) in Pune.
His appointment follows the resignation of Dr. Bibek Debroy on September 27, 2024. In his resignation letter to the trustees of The Servants of India Society (SIS), Dr. Debroy cited a desire to distance himself from the ongoing controversy surrounding the termination of Dr. Ajit Ranade, the institute’s former vice-chancellor. This matter is currently under review by the Bombay High Court.
Sanyal’s expertise and insights are anticipated to steer GIPE through its next phase of development amidst these challenges.
