The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is currently conducting searches at around 20 premises associated with Manish Ranjan, an IAS officer of the 2002 batch from Jharkhand and a personal staffer of Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister Mithilesh Kumar Thakur. The operation also targets several government officials, contractors, and businessmen connected to the case.
This investigation is part of a broader inquiry into alleged irregularities within the Central government’s Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). The JJM aims to ensure safe and adequate drinking water supply through household tap connections across the country.
The ED’s actions signal a significant escalation in the scrutiny surrounding the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, which has been a key initiative of the government to improve water accessibility and quality for millions of households.
