IAS Officer Tukaram Mundhe Surpasses Maharashtra CM and Dy CM on Instagram Engagement

Posted on September 5, 2026September 5, 2026 By northsouthblock No Comments on IAS Officer Tukaram Mundhe Surpasses Maharashtra CM and Dy CM on Instagram Engagement

Mumbai, September 5, 2026: Social media may not be a conventional performance yardstick for bureaucrats, but in today’s digital era, it has increasingly become a platform through which public visibility and engagement are measured.

By this measure, Tukaram Mundhe (IAS: 2005: Maharashtra), Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Maharashtra, has emerged ahead of some of the state’s top political leaders in Instagram engagement.

According to data released in August 2026, Mundhe has recorded significantly higher Instagram engagement than Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Mundhe Records 20.35% Engagement Rate

What makes the numbers particularly notable is that Mundhe has maintained a relatively low posting frequency. He shared just 13 posts over a 60-day period, yet recorded an impressive 20.35% engagement rate.

This engagement rate is significantly higher than that of Maharashtra’s top political leaders during the period covered by the data.

For comparison:

  • Tukaram Mundhe: 20.35%
  • Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis: 0.50%
  • Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde: 0.24%

The figures indicate that Mundhe’s relatively limited social media activity is generating considerably stronger audience interaction.

Strict Administrative Style Drives Online Visibility

Mundhe’s social media growth has coincided with his reputation for a strict and action-oriented administrative style as Maharashtra FDA Commissioner.

His public-facing administrative activities and interventions have helped generate considerable interest among citizens, particularly on social media platforms.

Unlike political leaders who typically maintain a high-volume social media presence, Mundhe’s account has reportedly relied on comparatively fewer posts. Despite this, his engagement figures have remained substantially higher.

Followers Also Becoming a Measure of Public Visibility

Social media followers are increasingly being viewed as an informal indicator of public visibility and reach. While follower numbers and engagement rates do not necessarily provide a comprehensive assessment of an administrator’s performance, they do indicate the extent to which a public official’s activities are attracting attention online.

In Mundhe’s case, the combination of follower growth and engagement has placed him among the more visible bureaucrats on social media.

Bureaucrat Outperforms Political Heavyweights on Engagement

The comparison with Maharashtra’s political leadership is particularly striking because Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers generally have much larger public profiles and significantly greater access to political communication networks.

Yet, according to the August 2026 data, Mundhe’s 20.35% Instagram engagement rate was far ahead of the 0.50% recorded for CM Devendra Fadnavis and 0.24% for Deputy CM Eknath Shinde.

The figures suggest that Mundhe’s posts, although fewer in number, are generating a much stronger response from his online audience.

A Different Kind of Social Media Report Card

For bureaucrats, social media is not traditionally considered a formal measure of administrative performance. However, as government functioning becomes increasingly visible online, public engagement can offer another indicator of how strongly an officer’s work resonates with citizens.

Tukaram Mundhe’s latest social media numbers therefore offer an interesting example of how an administrative officer can command substantial digital attention without maintaining the high posting frequency generally associated with political accounts.
