Patna (15 October 2025): Former IPS officer Anand Mishra (Retd IPS: 2011: AM), who had taken voluntary retirement (VRS) before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, has been fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from the Buxar Assembly constituency for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
Mishra, an officer of the Assam-Manipur cadre, had earlier contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Buxar as an independent candidate after being denied a BJP ticket. Despite an unsuccessful attempt, he joined the BJP on August 20, 2025, in the presence of BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal and Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha.
After his retirement, Mishra had publicly stated that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had assured him a party ticket. Following his independent run, he was briefly associated with Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party before officially joining the BJP.
With Anand Mishra’s candidature from Buxar, the BJP has now fielded two former bureaucrats in the Bihar Assembly elections so far — the other being Sujit Kumar (IRS IT: 2001) from Gaura Bauram constituency.
