The Rajasthan government has formally requested the repatriation of senior IAS officers Rohit Kumar (1997 batch) and Siddharth Mahajan (2003 batch) from central deputation, citing an acute shortage of officers in the state.
Currently, Rajasthan has only 280 serving IAS officers against a sanctioned strength of 332. The gap has been exacerbated by the fact that 23 officers from the Rajasthan cadre are on central deputation and one is serving on inter-state deputation, placing additional administrative burden on the remaining officials.
Rohit Kumar is presently serving as Additional Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat, while Siddharth Mahajan holds the position of Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Another officer, P C Kishan (2005 batch), has applied to return to the state for personal reasons.
To address the shortfall, Rajasthan is also expected to receive four additional IAS officers through promotions after Diwali. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is currently considering 20 candidates for elevation.
