The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured decisive victories in the Bihar Assembly elections with both of its bureaucrat-turned-politician candidates winning comfortably. Anand Mishra, a retired IPS officer of the 2011 batch (Assam–Meghalaya cadre), won from the Buxar Assembly constituency, while Sujit Kumar, a retired IRS officer of the 2001 batch, emerged victorious from Gaura Bauram.
Sujit Kumar had taken voluntary retirement (VRS) just before the elections, foregoing all pension benefits to enter active politics. Anand Mishra had resigned from service earlier, ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
With the formation of the new Bihar government underway, party observers indicate that Sujit Kumar is likely to be considered for a ministerial berth, given his administrative experience and strong electoral performance.
The entry and success of both officers highlight a growing trend of seasoned civil servants taking the political route and finding acceptance among voters.
