A surprising development has emerged from Lucknow, where IAS officer Rinku Singh Rahi resigned, alleging that he was not assigned any meaningful responsibilities for a long period and was kept in an “attached” position while drawing a salary.

IAS officer Rinku Singh Rahi (2022 batch, Uttar Pradesh cadre) submitted his resignation on Tuesday, stating that he had been deprived of any significant responsibilities for an extended duration.
He was reportedly attached to the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Board in July 2025 after a video from Shahjahanpur went viral. The video allegedly showed him doing sit-ups while holding his ears during a protest by lawyers.
Following the incident, the state government took serious note and sought a detailed report from the district administration. After the report was submitted, Rinku Singh Rahi was relieved from his duties as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and attached to the Revenue Board in Lucknow.
Calling his resignation a moral decision, Rahi remarked that the system seems to have a unique way of punishing honest officers—by paying them a salary without assigning work. He questioned how receiving a salary without performing duties could align with the principles of integrity, adding that such a situation also amounts to a form of corruption.
Notably, Rinku Singh Rahi was appointed as SDM of Puwayan on July 28, 2025, but was removed from the post within just 36 hours of assuming charge.
The resignation has sparked a broader debate over administrative practices and the treatment of officers within the system.
