New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the empanelment of 68 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of 2001, 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2008 batches for holding the post of Inspector General (IG) or equivalent at the Centre. The approval was granted on May 26, 2026.
The highest number of empanelled officers belong to the 2008 batch across various state cadres. The empanelment includes officers from AGMUT, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, Gujarat, Kerala, Karnataka, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and several other cadres.
Among the senior officers empanelled are Soorya Thankappan (2001 batch, Odisha cadre), Akhilesh Kumar Jha (2003 batch, Jharkhand cadre), Vikramjit Singh (2004 batch, AGMUT cadre) and Vikas Kumar (2004 batch, Rajasthan cadre).
The 2007 batch officers empanelled include Patel Mayur Kanaiya Lal, Sarthak Sarangi and Amandeep Singh Kapoor among others.
A large number of officers from the 2008 batch have also been cleared for IG-level postings at the Centre, including officers from AGMUT, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and other cadres.
The empanelment process enables IPS officers to be considered for senior assignments in central deputation across various ministries, departments and security organisations under the Government of India.
