The Government of India has announced several key appointments involving senior officers from the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS).
Ajay A Kumar, an IFS officer of the 2001 batch and currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Iraq.
Meanwhile, Soumendu Bagchi, an IFS officer of the 1993 batch and currently serving as India’s Ambassador to Iraq, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Switzerland.
In another important appointment, A Shiyas, an IPS officer of the 2008 batch from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as Inspector General (IG) in the Border Security Force (BSF).
Ajay A Kumar Appointed India’s Next Ambassador to Iraq
Ajay A Kumar, a senior Indian Foreign Service officer from the 2001 batch, has been given a significant diplomatic assignment as India’s next Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq.
He is currently serving as a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. With his new appointment, he will take over the responsibility of leading India’s diplomatic mission in Iraq.

Soumendu Bagchi Named Next Ambassador to Switzerland
Soumendu Bagchi, an IFS officer of the 1993 batch, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Switzerland. He is presently serving as India’s Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq. His new assignment will see him take charge of India’s diplomatic representation in Switzerland.
The India-Switzerland relationship is significant across several sectors, including trade, investment, technology and other areas of bilateral cooperation. As India’s next Ambassador to Switzerland, Bagchi will play an important role in advancing relations between the two countries.
A Shiyas Appointed Inspector General in BSF
The government has also announced the appointment of A Shiyas, an IPS officer of the 2008 batch from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, as Inspector General in the Border Security Force.
The appointment to the IG rank places him in an important leadership role within the BSF, one of India’s key border-guarding forces.The Border Security Force plays a major role in protecting India’s international borders and handling various border security responsibilities.
