Six Senior IPS Officers Appointed to CRPF, BSF, CISF and IB; Major Senior-Level Reshuffle

New Delhi, September 4, 2026: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of six senior IPS officers to key positions in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Intelligence Bureau (IB).

Under the latest appointments, CRPF and BSF have received two Special Director Generals each, while one Special Director General has been appointed in CISF and one Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau.

All six officers belong to the 1995 batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS) and will be placed in Level-16 of the Pay Matrix.

Sandeep Khirwar Appointed Special DG, CRPF

Sandeep Khirwar (IPS: 1995: Haryana), currently serving as Additional Director General (ADG), CRPF, has been appointed as Special Director General, CRPF.

His tenure will continue up to his date of superannuation, May 31, 2033.

Puneet Rastogi Gets Special DG Post in BSF

Puneet Rastogi (IPS: 1995: Tripura), currently serving as ADG, BSF, has been appointed as Special Director General, BSF.

He will hold the position until his superannuation on June 30, 2030.

Satish Shriramaji Khandare Appointed Special DG, BSF

Satish Shriramaji Khandare (IPS: 1995: AGMUT), currently ADG, BSF, has also been appointed as Special Director General, BSF.

The appointment has been made by restoring the temporarily downgraded post of Special Director General in BSF. His tenure will continue until his superannuation on June 30, 2031.

Padmakar S Ranipse Appointed Special DG, CISF

Padmakar S Ranipse (IPS: 1995: Odisha), currently serving as ADG, CISF, has been appointed as Special Director General, CISF on an in-situ basis.

The post has been temporarily upgraded for the appointment. His tenure will continue until his superannuation on May 31, 2028.

Rajesh Kumar Appointed Special DG, CRPF

Rajesh Kumar (IPS: 1995: AGMUT), currently serving as ADG, CRPF, has been appointed as Special Director General, CRPF on an in-situ basis.

The post held by the officer has been temporarily upgraded for the appointment. His tenure will be for two years.

Jag Mohan Appointed Special Director, IB

Jag Mohan (IPS: 1995: Bihar), currently serving as Additional Director, Intelligence Bureau, has been appointed as Special Director, IB.

His tenure will continue until his superannuation on June 30, 2031.

CRPF and BSF Get Two Special DGs Each

The latest ACC appointments strengthen the senior leadership structure of India’s key central security organisations.

CRPF will have Sandeep Khirwar and Rajesh Kumar as Special Director Generals, while BSF will have Puneet Rastogi and Satish Shriramaji Khandare in the same rank.

Padmakar S Ranipse has been appointed Special DG in CISF, while Jag Mohan has been elevated as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau.

The appointments mark a significant senior-level leadership reshuffle across India’s central armed police forces and intelligence establishment.
