In a significant development, the Bihar government, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has promoted Amit Lodha, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1998 batch of Bihar, to the rank of Additional Director General of Police (ADG). Lodha, who has been serving as the Inspector General of Police (IG) at the State Crime Records Bureau, gained widespread fame with his book The Bihar Diaries, which was adapted into a Netflix series, Khakee: The Bihar Chapter. This series contributed to his larger-than-life image, making him a household name.
However, his career has not been without controversy. An FIR was lodged against him citing disproportionate assets and financial trails linking him to unacceptable professional practices. Despite these allegations, which some speculate may have been linked to his larger-than-life portrayal in the media, a section of civil servants argue that his on-screen persona could have been unacceptable to the political establishment but proved to be unfounded in Lodha’s case.
Additionally, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has registered cases against Lodha and his wife, Komudi Lodha, investigating charges related to disproportionate assets (DA) and other financial irregularities. The state vigilance department had already registered a DA case against Lodha in December 2022 when he was serving as the DIG of Magadh Range. The ED’s case is based on this very investigation.
