The Uttarakhand government has appointed Amit Sinha (IPS: 1997: UK) as the first Vice Chancellor of the newly established Uttarakhand Sports University. His appointment is for a period of one year, although the government holds the discretion to appoint the first Vice Chancellor, and the standard tenure for the post is three years.
The position of Vice Chancellor is considered a full-time role, even though it can be held on deputation. Consequently, Sinha is expected to be relieved from his current responsibilities as ADG and Special Principal Secretary to the Government.
In related appointments, Ashish Chauhan, Director of Sports, has been designated as the Registrar of the university, while V.N. Pandey, currently Finance Officer in the Sports Directorate, has been named as the Finance Controller. These appointments mark a significant step in operationalizing the state’s dedicated sports education and training institution.
