The Election Commission of India (ECI) appointed Harish Kumar Gupta (IPS: 1992: AP) as Director General of Police (DGP) of Andhra Pradesh. The orders to the Chief Secretary, Government of Andhra Pradesh directed that the officer should take charge immediately and the compliance report be submitted to the ECI.
The decision to appoint Gupta as the new DGP comes after the transfer of KV Rajendranath (IPS: 1992: AP) by the Election Commission of India on Sunday. The state government had sent a panel of three names to the EC for consideration, including IPS officers Dwaraka Tirumala Rao (IPS: 1989: AP), Madireddy Pratap (IPS: 1992: AP), and Harishkumar Gupta. After reviewing the recommendations, Gupta was selected by the ECI to assume the crucial role of leading the state police force.
