The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Bishnupada Sethi, a senior IAS officer (1995 batch, Odisha cadre) and Principal Secretary in the SC/ST Welfare and Odisha Language Department, in connection with a corruption case. The CBI requested Sethi’s presence at their Bhubaneswar office on December 11, 2024, but he did not appear before the agency.
The case involves the arrest of Chanchal Mukherjee, the Group General Manager of the Central PSU Bridge and Roof Company, on October 15, 2024, for allegedly accepting a Rs 10 lakh bribe from a real estate company in exchange for promising work orders. Mukherjee was apprehended with the bribe money outside Mayfair Hotel in Bhubaneswar, during a sting operation where the money was being handed over by the owner of the real estate firm.
In addition to Mukherjee, three other individuals were arrested. According to CBI officials, Sethi’s name surfaced as an alleged beneficiary in the ongoing bribery investigation, prompting the agency to issue the summons.
