The West Bengal government has appointed Dr. Manoj Pant (IAS: 1991: WB), currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary for Irrigation & Waterways, as the new Chief Secretary of the state. This appointment comes as B.P. Gopalika (IAS: 1989: WB) retires on August 31, 2024. Gopalika, who was the Home Secretary before becoming Chief Secretary on December 31, 2023, was initially scheduled to retire on May 31, 2024. However, his tenure was extended by three months by the Centre to serve as Chief Secretary until the end of August.
