The Election Commission of India on Wednesday appointed S Chockalingam (IAS: 1996: MH) as the new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Maharashtra.
Chockalingam, Director General of Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration in Pune, has been designated as the CEO of the state in place of S M Deshpande (IAS: 1991: MH). According to established practice, the EC seeks a list of three names from the state government and designates one of them as the CEO who is the top EC official in each state.
