Dilip Mandal, the former editor of India Today (Hindi), has been appointed as Media Advisor in the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. Mandal, who was once a vocal critic of Hindutva politics, has recently shifted his stance to become a proponent of Hindutva while aligning his rhetoric with OBC (Other Backward Classes) politics.
This appointment comes just one day before a planned nationwide strike by the Confederation of Dalit and Adivasi organizations. The strike was organized to demand a central law to overturn a Supreme Court ruling that permits the sub-classification of Scheduled Castes (SCs) within the quota system. Mandal had previously been outspoken on this issue on social media and had even criticized the Chief Justice of India.
