Girdhar Armane, the current Defence Secretary, and his successor Rajesh Kumar Singh are both set to retire on October 31 this year. Singh, who is a 1989 batch Kerala cadre IAS officer, has been appointed as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Department of Defence and will officially assume the role of Defence Secretary on the same date.
In a recent development, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved an extension of Singh’s service beyond the standard age of superannuation. His tenure as Secretary, Department of Defence, will now extend until October 31, 2026, or until further notice.
