In a major push to Delhi’s public transport expansion, the Delhi government has approved Phase V(A) of the Delhi Metro project following clearance from the Centre. The project, estimated at Rs 12,014.91 crore, includes three new corridors aimed at strengthening connectivity across key parts of the national capital.

The Delhi Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, on Wednesday approved Phase V(A) of the Delhi Metro project, marking a significant step in the capital’s infrastructure development. The decision comes after the Centre gave its nod to the expansion plan, which includes three strategic corridors.
Chief Minister Gupta said the project, estimated at Rs 12,014.91 crore, will substantially strengthen and modernise Delhi’s public transport network. The Delhi government will contribute Rs 2,940.46 crore towards the total project cost.
Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support, Gupta said the project aligns with his “7-C Vision” of mobility — Common, Connected, Convenient, Congestion-free, Charged, Clean and Cutting-edge. She emphasised that strengthening public transport is essential to reducing congestion and improving air quality in the city.
The three approved corridors are: RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha (via Central Vista), Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj, and Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Domestic Terminal-1. Of the 13 proposed stations under Phase V(A), 10 will be underground and three elevated.
The 9.91-km RK Ashram Marg–Indraprastha corridor will have nine stations and pass through the Central Vista area. It is expected to connect major administrative and cultural landmarks, including Kartavya Bhavan complexes, Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, CCS Buildings, India Gate, War Memorial–High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam and Indraprastha. The corridor is likely to benefit around 60,000 government employees and nearly two lakh daily commuters. The estimated cost of this stretch is Rs 9,570.40 crore, with the Delhi government contributing Rs 2,337.24 crore.
The 2.26-km Aerocity–IGD Terminal-1 corridor will include one station and provide direct metro access to Indira Gandhi Domestic Airport Terminal-1. The project is expected to ease traffic congestion around the airport area. The estimated cost is Rs 1,419.64 crore, of which Rs 351.86 crore will be borne by the Delhi government.
Meanwhile, the 3.9-km Tughlakabad–Kalindi Kunj corridor will include three stations and improve connectivity in south and south-east Delhi. The estimated cost of this stretch is Rs 1,024.87 crore, with the Delhi government contributing Rs 251.36 crore.
With the approval of Phase V(A), the Delhi Metro network is set to expand further, reinforcing its role as the backbone of the city’s urban mobility system.
