IPS Officer Gautam Goyal, a 2019-batch officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, is currently serving as the Superintendent of Police in Salem, Tamil Nadu. His comprehensive strategy in the district includes efforts to combat drug trafficking, reduce road accidents, modernize crime mapping, and enhance surveillance to curb robberies and housebreaking.
In his fight against drug-related crimes, Goyal is employing an extensive approach that moves beyond targeting small quantities, such as 10 or 100 grams. His strategy involves gathering intelligence from central jails, where he personally speaks to accused individuals already in custody to understand the operations behind drug trafficking.
Goyal also emphasized the critical role of monitoring routes used for trafficking, particularly in light of Salem’s emergence as a major transit point for drugs moving between India and Sri Lanka. “This region has become a significant transit point in the state for drugs moving between India and Sri Lanka, and vice versa,” he stated.
