Y Puran Kumar (IPS: 2001: HY), who lodged five complaints of “harassment and humiliation” against a senior IAS officer in less than two months, has raised objections on the formation of a committee comprising three former IAS officers on February 8 to probe into his charges. The committee consisted of three former IAS officers — Rajan Gupta, Navraj Sandhu and PK Das -— to inquire into the charges levelled by Kumar.
The IPS officer in a representation to the Haryana government termed the constitution of the committee “legally irrelevant” and “blatantly illegal”. However, despite his objections, the committee initiated the “probe process” and held its second meeting on March 1, 2024 in which the IPS officer was also called to “adduce evidence and give a statement on various issues listed by the panel”.
The IPS officer on October 23, 2023 lodged a complaint against a senior IAS officer and others under different charges, including under the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. By December 18, 2023, the IPS officer lodged four more complaints against the IAS officer.
