Shillong (09.05.2024): The Meghalaya government is awaiting approval of Election Commission of India (ECI) for the appointment of the new DGP of the state. The name of Idashisha Nongrang (IPS: 1992: AM) is the most favourite but it needs the approval of the ECI as the model code of conduct is in place till June 4, 2024.
Incumbent DGP LR Bishnoi (IPS: 1991: AM) is retiring on May 19. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) had on May 2 recommended three names — Nongrang, RP Meena (IPS: 1993: AM) and Deepak Kumar (IPS: 1994: AM) for the appointment of Meghalaya DGP.
