The Gujarat government has compulsorily retired K Rajesh and Gaurav Dahiya, two Gujarat-cadre IAS officers, following a review of their service records and disciplinary matters. The action is linked to an ongoing exercise referred to as ‘Operation Gangajal’, which covers officials facing disciplinary proceedings, corruption allegations and serious questions over conduct.
K Rajesh Case
K Rajesh, a 2011-batch IAS officer, was already under suspension when the decision was taken. He has faced criminal investigations linked to alleged bribery, irregular allotment of government land and money laundering.
The CBI arrested Rajesh in 2022 in connection with alleged corruption during his tenure as Surendranagar collector. The Enforcement Directorate later took action in a money-laundering case arising from the allegations.
Gaurav Dahiya
Gaurav Dahiya, a 2010-batch IAS officer, was serving as Additional Development Commissioner in Gandhinagar before his compulsory retirement. He had been suspended in 2019 following allegations that led to departmental proceedings and inquiries.
The government later revoked his suspension in July 2023 and he returned to service. His career record also included controversies and disciplinary inquiries, including matters related to his tenure with the National Health Mission.
Operation Gangajal
The exercise known as ‘Operation Gangajal’ involves reviewing the records of officials facing corruption allegations, disciplinary proceedings and serious misconduct-related issues. The compulsory retirement of the two IAS officers is being reported as part of this wider review.
It is important to note that allegations and ongoing criminal or departmental proceedings should not be treated as judicial findings of guilt.
