Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna CPSU under the Ministry of Power, has successfully acquired the Bhadla-III & Bikaner-III Transmission Limited project. The acquisition was finalized on August 30, 2024, from PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL) following a competitive bidding process.
The Bhadla-III & Bikaner-III Transmission Limited project will implement a 765kV D/C Transmission Line to connect the Bhadla-III and Bikaner-III substations, along with necessary bay extension works at these sites in Rajasthan. Scheduled for commissioning within 24 months, this Inter State Transmission System Project is designed to enhance power transfer flexibility and improve the resiliency of the transmission corridor between the two complexes.
This new high-capacity interconnection will facilitate the evacuation of power from the Bhadla/Bikaner renewable energy (RE) clusters and accommodate future RE generators. POWERGRID’s acquisition aligns with its broader mission to enhance India’s transmission infrastructure and support the country’s goal of achieving a 500 GW renewable energy target by 2030.
As of July 31, 2024, POWERGRID has operationalized 278 substations, over 177,790 circuit kilometers of transmission lines, and a transformation capacity of 532,446 MVA. Through its adoption of advanced technologies and digital solutions, the company maintains an impressive average transmission system availability of over 99.8%.
