Santosh Kumar Verma, an Indian Railway Services (IRSS) officer of the 1995 batch, has been appointed as Joint Secretary in the Department of Consumer Affairs for a tenure of five years. This role has been temporarily upgraded from a vacant Director position to accommodate his appointment. He replaces Vineet Mathur (Indian Postal Service: 1994).
