SC to hear Kejriwal’s case after HC verdict; remarks delay in HC’s decision ‘unusual’

Posted on June 25, 2024June 25, 2024 By northsouthblock No Comments on SC to hear Kejriwal’s case after HC verdict; remarks delay in HC’s decision ‘unusual’

New Delhi : Vacation bench of the Supreme Court termed Delhi High Court’s decision to grant an interim stay on Kejriwal’s bail without issuing a final order as “unusual.” However, it adjourned hearing saying that it would be appropriate to wait for the High Court’s final order, which is expected in a day or two.
Additional Solicitor General SV Raju informed the SC that the High Court would soon pronounce its order on the stay application and requested an adjournment of the case. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Arvind Kejriwal, questioned the high court’s decision to grant a stay on bail on the first day of the hearing. He argued that the procedure was unprecedented and without precedent.
On June 20, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court granted regular bail to the AAP chief despite the Directorate of Enforcement opposing the bail plea. However, on June 21, the ED challenged the trial court order at the Delhi High Court, citing that the regular bail was passed without granting adequate “opportunity” of a hearing to the probe agency.
