The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has received 18 bids from highway developers for the construction of the over 85-km Kaliabor–Numaligarh section of National Highway 715, which passes through the ecologically sensitive Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve. The project will be executed in EPC mode with an estimated capital cost of ₹6,956 crore.

The National Highways Authority of India has received an overwhelming response from bidders for the development of the Kaliabor to Numaligarh stretch of National Highway 715 in Assam. The project, spanning more than 85 km, attracted a total of 18 bids from highway developers and is expected to be awarded within the current financial year. The total estimated capital cost of the project stands at ₹6,956 crore.

To enhance road connectivity in the region while protecting its unique ecological heritage, the project was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA). The foundation ceremony, or ‘Bhumi Pujan’, for the project was performed by Narendra Modi in January 2026.

A key highlight of the project is the construction of a 34.5-km long Kaziranga Elevated Corridor to allow free and uninterrupted movement of wildlife across the highway. The elevated corridor will be built in three sections — 18.3 km, 11.2 km, and 5 km — ensuring safe passage for animals between Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve and the nearby Karbi Anglong Hills.

The corridor will form a crucial part of the upgradation of National Highway 715 from a two-lane road to a four-lane highway, aiming to improve transportation efficiency while maintaining ecological balance in the region.
