The process for appointing the next Director General of Police in Telangana has moved forward after the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) shortlisted three senior Indian Police Service officers for the top post. The officers include C V Anand (IPS: 1991 batch), Vinayak Prabhakar Apte (IPS: 1994 batch), and Soumya Mishra (IPS: 1994 batch).

According to officials, the UPSC selection committee held a meeting in New Delhi on March 11 to finalize the shortlist in accordance with the directives of the Supreme Court of India regarding the appointment of state DGPs.

The high-level meeting was attended by the UPSC Chairperson, the Union Home Secretary, the Chief Secretary of Telangana, and a nominee from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Under the Supreme Court guidelines, the UPSC prepares a panel of three senior-most eligible IPS officers based on their service record, experience, and seniority. The state government then makes the final decision by selecting one of the shortlisted officers to serve as the head of the state police force.
