Lucknow Bureau : Owing to the massive infrastructure development in Uttar Pradesh, the confederation of Indian Industry organised a Conference on Roads and Highways to discuss the technicalities, possibilities, opportunities and way forward in the road sector.
Speaking at the session Shri VK Singh, technical advisor to Hon’ble PWD Minister and former Engineer in Chief, UPPWD, mentioned that for Indian roads we need to move from the conventional ways to new method in terms of technology to ensure long term maintenance of roads and recycling of roads. He mentioned that while making such transformation we need to take care of the cost, methodology to ensure environment protection.
Shri Dharamveer Singh, Professor – Transportation Systems Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Bombay said that a lot of technological advancement has taken place in the road sector to compete and match the international standard of road construction however there is still lot of scope for the technological upgradation in road technology.
Ms Smita Agarwal, Chairperson of the CII UP State Council , highlighted the significant impact of Uttar Pradesh’s extensive expressway network on the state’s economic development. Constructed under the Bharatmala project, these expressways have not only strengthened the state’s road infrastructure but also played a crucial role in the economic and social development of the country. They facilitate the efficient movement of freight and passengers while improving access to markets, thereby contributing to overall growth.
Addressing the audience, Mr Manoj Gupta, Past chairman, CII UP State Council and Chairman and Managing Director, ART Thermosets Pvt Ltd mentioned that extensive use of technologies like emulsion treated aggregate and micro surfacing in road construction in UP has made Uttar Pradesh way ahead in road construction in the country so much so that many other states of India are following the technologies uses in Roads of Uttar Pradesh. This has not only saved lot of construction cost but has also saved a lot on carbon emission part.
