Anurag Jain Appointed New Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh as Veera Rana Retires

Posted on September 30, 2024September 30, 2024 By northsouthblock No Comments on Anurag Jain Appointed New Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh as Veera Rana Retires

Just hours before Veera Rana (IAS: 1988: MP) retires today as State Chief Secretary, the New Delhi establishment has sent Anurag Jain (IAS: 1989: MP) back to Madhya Pradesh. In line with New Delhi’s preferences, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced Jain’s appointment as the new Chief Secretary. Jain’s current term runs until August 31, 2025, with the possibility of further extension.

Currently serving as Union Secretary in the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), Jain is regarded as a close associate of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). His return to state service has sparked renewed hope among IAS officers awaiting Secretary-level postings in the Government of India. Notably, Jain’s repatriation also creates an additional Secretary-level vacancy at MoRTH, where three other posts are already vacant, including Secretary for Coal, Secretary for the Department of Public Enterprises, and Secretary for Culture.

This decision follows a recent trend, including the repatriation of Union Coal Secretary Amrit Lal Meena (IAS: 1989: BH) for his new role as Bihar Chief Secretary. Similarly, there was the case of Durga Shanker Mishra, whose service was extended before he was repatriated for a proposed appointment in Uttar Pradesh.

Insiders suggest that this latest decision may reflect the Centre’s influence, especially considering Dr. Mohan Yadav was himself New Delhi’s choice to succeed Shivraj Singh Chauhan. As the bureaucratic landscape shifts, stakeholders will be watching closely for further developments.
