After the match, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav expressed great happiness over the victory. He described the moment as an incredible feeling and said it was a matter of pride for him to lead such a talented team. According to Surya, it was a special moment for every player in the squad.
Suryakumar also praised Sanju Samson for his match-winning batting performance. He said that Samson knew exactly what he had to do when he went out to bat. Even after wickets fell at the other end, he remained confident because the pitch was good for batting and continued to play according to the team’s needs. Surya added that Samson had worked very hard over the past year, and this performance was a reward for that effort. He called the innings very special for the team.
The Indian captain also revealed a light-hearted moment with England skipper Harry Brook after the match. Surya said he jokingly asked Brook how many runs India actually needed to score against England to feel safe. India had put up a total of more than 250 runs, yet the margin of victory was just seven runs. He credited England’s batting effort but said Indian bowlers such as Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and others pulled the game back at crucial moments.
Meanwhile, England captain Harry Brook admitted that a few mistakes cost his team the match. He said the team expected the pitch to hold a little early on and thought there might be more assistance for spin in the first innings, but that did not happen.
Brook also acknowledged that dropping Sanju Samson’s catch proved very expensive. He said the old saying that “catches win matches” proved true, and unfortunately things in the field did not go England’s way. In the end, the team had to pay the price for those mistakes, though he said the players should still be proud of the way they performed throughout the tournament.
