Big Relief for Air Travelers: No Cancellation or Name Change Fee Within 48 Hours of Booking : DGCA

Posted on February 26, 2026February 26, 2026 By northsouthblock No Comments on Big Relief for Air Travelers: No Cancellation or Name Change Fee Within 48 Hours of Booking : DGCA

There is good news for air passengers across the country. If you book a flight ticket, you will now be able to cancel it or make corrections to the passenger’s name within 48 hours of booking without paying any additional charges.

By NSB.News

This major relief has been introduced under new rules issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), aimed at protecting passenger interests and improving transparency in airline ticketing policies.

What Does the New Rule Say?

Under the new guidelines: Passengers can cancel their ticket within 48 hours of booking without any extra cancellation fee.

Name correction or change within the same 48-hour window will not attract additional charges.
Airlines must clearly disclose fare rules and refund policies to passengers.

Earlier, passengers often had to pay hefty charges even for minor mistakes made during online booking.

Why Was This Decision Taken?

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation received numerous complaints regarding high cancellation fees, delays in refunds, and difficulties in correcting passenger details.

To address these issues and ensure fair practices, DGCA has introduced this passenger-friendly measure. The step is expected to enhance accountability among airlines and reduce financial stress for travelers.

How Will Passengers Benefit?

Opportunity to correct booking mistakes without penalty
Flexibility in case of sudden change in travel plans
Faster and more transparent refund process

Reduced financial burden

This rule will especially benefit travelers who accidentally enter incorrect names, dates, or other details while booking tickets online.

Will It Apply to All Tickets?

While the rule provides broad relief, certain conditions may still apply depending on the airline and fare category (refundable or non-refundable tickets). Passengers are advised to carefully review fare conditions at the time of booking.
