Young participants during the Gen Z discussion at The Creators Lounge at Lucknow Book Fair

Gen Z Opens Up on Relationships, Life and Stress at Lucknow Book Fair

‘Half Body Half Soul’ sparks candid conversation on changing relationships, career pressure and the anxieties shaping young lives

LUCKNOW, October 2026: What does a relationship mean to today’s young generation? How much personal space is too much, and how does one deal with the pressure of career, family expectations and social media?

These were among the questions that came up during an engaging interaction with Gen Z at the 23rd Lucknow Book Fair, where The Creators Lounge (TCL) hosted a session titled ‘Gen Z Se Charcha’.

The discussion, centred around Half Body Half Soul, went beyond the book itself, giving young participants an opportunity to speak openly about their experiences, relationships, ambitions and the pressures of modern life.

Relationships are no longer defined by convention

One of the key themes of the discussion was the changing way young people look at relationships.

For Gen Z, relationships are increasingly about emotional connection, mutual respect, understanding and personal freedom rather than simply conforming to traditional expectations.

The participants also spoke about the importance of having mental and emotional space within relationships, reflecting a broader shift in how young people define companionship and personal boundaries.

Career pressure, social media and the stress of modern life

The conversation soon moved beyond relationships. Young participants spoke about career uncertainty, the pressure to meet expectations, the influence of social media and the constant anxiety surrounding the future. For many young people, the challenge is no longer simply about choosing a career or building a successful life. It is also about finding a balance between professional ambitions, family expectations and personal happiness.

The discussion offered a glimpse into the questions and concerns that often remain unspoken among young people.

Are young people really moving away from books?

The strong participation of young visitors at the Lucknow Book Fair also challenged the familiar perception that Gen Z is losing interest in books.

The interest among young readers suggests otherwise.

Young visitors are exploring books not just for entertainment but also for ideas around society, nation-building, spirituality, self-reflection and the larger questions of life.

Books such as Battle of Minds and The Spiritual Monk of India have also attracted interest, indicating that today’s young readers are not merely looking for answers. They are equally interested in questioning established ideas and discovering new perspectives.

When a book becomes a conversation

That is what made the Half Body Half Soul session different from a conventional book discussion. The book became a starting point for a much larger conversation about life. Questions around relationships, identity, emotional well-being and the pressures of growing up gradually came to the centre of the discussion, turning the session into a window into the mindset of today’s young generation.

The Creators Lounge gives new voices a platform

The initiative is also in line with the core philosophy of The Creators Lounge, which aims to give Voice, Vision and Value to new creations and creators. TCL brings together authors, artists, photographers, storytellers and creators from different fields, providing them with a platform to connect directly with readers and audiences.

Through Author Talks, Book Launches, Panel Discussions, Workshops and Open Mic sessions, the initiative seeks to build a conversation between creators and their audiences rather than limiting the experience to simply showcasing books and artworks.

A meeting point for established ideas and new thinking

At the Lucknow Book Fair, The Creators Lounge is emerging as a space where different generations and ideas come together. Young visitors are not just browsing books. They are engaging with ideas, questioning them and relating them to their own lives.

The Gen Z discussion reflected that shift clearly.

At the heart of the conversation were some deeply human questions: How should relationships be understood in a changing world? How can young people deal with stress? How can they build a life of their own while navigating expectations from family and society?

There may not be simple answers to these questions, but platforms such as The Creators Lounge are creating space for young people to ask them. And sometimes, a conversation that begins with a book can become something much bigger—a conversation about life itself.
