Ireland kept their tournament hopes alive with a commanding victory over Oman, powered by a brilliant unbeaten 94 from stand-in captain Lorcan Tucker. Ireland piled up a formidable 235, a total that proved far beyond Oman’s reach, making them the first team to be eliminated from the competition.
Ireland endured a nightmare start, losing three wickets inside the powerplay and slipping to 64/4 at one stage. While they scored briskly during the field restrictions, they offered too many chances to Oman’s spin attack.
Shakeel Ahmed led the charge for Oman with three wickets, as the spinners were introduced early to exploit Ireland’s struggles against slower bowling. However, with Oman’s seamers held back for the latter stages, it ultimately suited Ireland’s batting strategy.
Tucker survived an early controversial moment but was otherwise flawless. He rebuilt the innings through the middle overs before accelerating in style, showcasing composure and tactical awareness to find boundaries consistently. His unbeaten 94 came off just 51 deliveries.
Gareth Delany provided ideal support, initially rotating strike before unleashing in the death overs. Delany smashed 56 off 30 balls, including four sixes.
A late flourish from George Dockrell propelled Ireland to 235/5. Dockrell hammered an explosive 35 not out off just 9 balls, with five of those deliveries clearing the ropes at the SSC Ground, capping off a dominant batting display.
