In a significant move, the New Delhi establishment has extended the tenure of Mallika Srinivasan as the Chairperson of the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) for an additional year. Her tenure, originally set to end on 18th November 2024, will now run until 18th November 2025, beyond the age of 65.
Srinivasan, who took over the role in April 2021, replaced Rajeev Kumar (Retd. IAS: 1984: JH) and was initially appointed for a three-year term or until she turned 65. With her scheduled last working day at PESB just around the corner, on Monday, 18th November 2024, the extension has come as a surprise, ensuring her continued leadership at the helm of PESB.
This decision underscores the government’s confidence in Srinivasan’s leadership and her role in overseeing key public sector appointments and reforms.
