Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday executed a significant administrative reshuffle at the top levels of India’s bureaucracy, impacting at least 20 senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers. This restructuring follows the recent appointments of Govind Mohan and TV Somanathan as the new home secretary and cabinet secretary, respectively.
According to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, Rajesh Kumar Singh, a 1989 batch IAS officer from Kerala, has been appointed as the new defence secretary, succeeding A Giridhar. Manoj Govil, a 1991 batch IAS officer from Madhya Pradesh, will take over as the secretary of the Department of Expenditure within the Ministry of Finance.
Punya Salila Srivastava, an IAS officer of the 1993 batch from the AGMUT cadre and currently a special secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office, will now serve as the health secretary. Meanwhile, Deepti Umashankar, a 1993 batch IAS officer from Haryana, has been designated as the new secretary to President Droupadi Murmu.
Additionally, Deepti Gaur Mukherjee, the chief executive officer of the National Health Authority and a 1993 batch IAS officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, will become the new secretary at the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. The reshuffle also includes Sanjeev Kumar, a 1993 batch IAS officer from Maharashtra, who will be the new secretary for Defence Production at the Ministry of Defence.
