In a surprising move, the Central Government has curtailed the tenure of Nalin Prabhat (IPS: 1992: AP) as Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG), effective immediately. The decision, announced late Wednesday evening, also includes his repatriation and inter-cadre deputation from Andhra Pradesh to the AGMUT Cadre.
Effective Independence Day, Nalin Prabhat has been appointed as the Special Director General of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police, with this role set to last until September 30, 2024. Following the retirement of the current Director General of Police (DGP) for J&K, Rashmi Ranjan Swain (IPS: 1991: AGMUT), Nalin Prabhat will officially assume the position of DGP, J&K, starting October 1, 2024. His tenure in this role will extend until September 2025.
Prabhat’s tenure as NSG chief, which began on April 19, 2024, was unexpectedly cut short by the Centre, leading to his rapid reassignment and new responsibilities in the Jammu and Kashmir region.
