New Delhi : In a major push towards administrative reforms and collaborative governance, the Centre has asked senior bureaucrats across the country to document India’s most successful governance innovations and policy interventions. Cabinet Secretary T. V. Somanathan has written to all Union Secretaries as well as Chief Secretaries of States and Union Territories, urging them to identify and record governance practices that can be replicated nationwide.
National Repository Of Governance Innovations
According to an Office Memorandum issued by the Cabinet Secretariat, the experience and expertise of officers from the All India Services, Central Services, and State Services represent a valuable national resource. The government believes that documenting successful governance initiatives with wider applicability will help preserve institutional memory and encourage peer learning across departments and regions.
Practical Playbook For Public Administration
The proposed repository is expected to serve as a practical governance playbook for officers dealing with complex administrative challenges. It will include successful interventions in areas such as service delivery, digital governance, grassroots welfare implementation, and policy innovation.
NCGG To Lead The Initiative
The nationwide exercise will be spearheaded by the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG). The initiative aims to transform isolated success stories into institutional knowledge that can strengthen governance standards across the country.
Focus On Replicating Success Stories
The Cabinet Secretariat noted that India’s civil services collectively possess a vast reservoir of administrative experience, much of which often remains confined within individual departments or states. By sharing and replicating these successful governance models, the Centre hopes to improve public administration and encourage innovation in governance practices nationwide.
Submission Deadline Till May 31
To ensure wider participation, the submission process has been designed to remain flexible and accessible. Officers have been asked to submit their entries by May 31, 2026. The government expects the initiative to play a key role in strengthening administrative reforms and promoting best governance practices across India.
