New Delhi : Following the completion of Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba’s extended tenure, it is expected that the New Delhi dispensation may soon take a call on Union Home Secretary whether it wants to give extension or wants to make a fresh appointment. Incumbent Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla (IAS: 1984: AM) is completing his extended tenure on August 22, 2024.
He was on 04.08.2023 given extension up to 22.08.2024 in relaxation of FR 56(d) and Rule 16(1A) of the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 19.
Speculation is rife that the government may soon announce the completion of Bhalla’s extended tenure by appointing an OSD in the Ministry of Home Affairs. The next course may unfold after Independence Day ceremony or may be at any point of time now.
